No, it reads RMS feedline current in amps. Working into a dummy load of 
known resistance, watts output can be calculated by Ohm's law.  On the real 
antenna, I just use it to indiciate maximum juice, since the feedline is 
nowhere near flat and nonreactive.

The thermocouple is just a tiny little piece of wire inside the meter case, 
made of dissimilar metals, which produces a small direct current when 
heated.  The conventional DC meter movement reads that current, which is a 
function the rf current passing through the thermocouple.
