A theoretical benefit in using solid state rectifiers in the Collins
32V- transmitters is to prolong the life of the often fragile LV
transformer by eliminating the filament and thermal loads it takes from
the rectifier tubes.
Ted Weber's Copper Caps would seem like an easy way to make the
conversion. These devices, according to Ted, have built in dropping
resistors and inrush surge current protection. Has anyone used Copper
Caps in a 32V? What was your experience?
Thanks and 73,
Craig
