The tube has an oddball filament voltage something like 8.1 volts. The
Eimac spec sheet says that it was designed for radar pulse modulator
service. I once read somewhere that it is basically identical to a 450TL
(or TH?), but that the filament voltage rating was increased to give more
cathode emission, to accomodate peak outupt power in the 10's of kilowatts.
This is at the expense of tube life. If the tube is run at 7.5 volts it
will do just fine in modulator or rf power amp service, and will last much
longer. Essentially, Eimac said run a 450T's filament voltage up, and it
will deliver incredible peak power while it lasts, but will have a short
life.
