not cancel ..  'are equal'.

R = X(sub L)=X(sub C) or when Reactance is at, or very near 0 (Zero)

Definition of Reactance:
An ac circuit condition in which inductive and capacitive reactances interact to
cause a minimum or maximum circuit impedance.
