Ed,
No designated "AM window" on 2M that I'm aware of but check with your local
coordinator. The California band plan is as shown below. I understand that
144.4 is/was a traditional AM spot, but out here in the SW that frequency is
wiped out by packet activity on 144.390 that runs day and night. Because of
this, an AM group in/around Phoenix, AZ, uses 144.45. No regular 2M AM activity
here in the LA area currently but a few of us have been looking at 144.45 and
also 144.265. The latter freq. is down in the "SSB/CW/General Operation"
area, see below. Would seem to me AM operation in any of the "FM and other
modes" areas would be acceptable. Understand, though, someone will bitch
wherever you try to operate.
144.000 - 144.100 CW only (Part 97.61a)
144.100 - 144.275 SSB/CW General Operation
144.275 - 144.300 Propagation Beacons
144.300 - 144.500 FM and other modes
144.500 - 144.900 Repeater Inputs
144.900 - 145.100 Digital (Packet) (exception is 144.97)
145.100 - 145.500 Repeater Outputs
145.500 - 145.600 FW and other modes
145.600 - 145.700 Digital (Packet)
145.700 - 145.800 Simplex autopatches, FM and other modes
145.800 - 146.000 OSCAR Satellite Inputs and Outputs
146.000 - 146.415 Repeater Inputs/Outputs
146,415 - 146.600 FM and other modes
146.600 - 147.400 Repeater Input/Output
147.400 - 147.600 FM and other modes
147.600 - 148.000 Repeater Input/Output
I run an SCR-522 and Hallicrafters SR-43 on 2M AM, BTW.
