Yep got a decent set of tubes to go with that McMatin...they arent used, but
they arent flat either. Also got a few other 4-400's that are a but soft..but
for ham use they should be ok.Let me see exactly what is what tube wise
tomorrow.

Loose wire?flaky tube or tube socket?Plate voltage missing in the oscillator
when it wont fire up or is there no filament action?

Oh geesh!...sounds like your RCA is trying to tell you to spend more time
with it...lol...its lonely ....lol.
Oh..as far as the McMartin goes....well looks like it could go for a steal
right now.
Anyhow...I'm still in awe here over this new BE AM 1A. Wow is it a neat box!
Shame though in about another 50 years they wont be so ham friendly like our
RCA's,Gates,McMartins,Raytheons,Collins and so on and so on. I think before its
over with I'll end up with some sort of radio museum here.
Couple of projects in the works along with the rebuild of the AM station here
...one is to figure out how to as gently as possible..how to move this
Raytheon [which is now mine] into its new home in about 2 to 4 months from now...and
locate some frequency agile and somewhat portable AM BCB transmitter ---100
to 250 watts at least. The company here is not wanting a backup rig
here...which really bothers me. They apparently havent seen the things I've seen..but
there is no budging them on this unfortunately.Well the other AM that I maintain
also has no backup rig..and you know the RCA there is as bout as old as yours
Neal. The tube rigs dont bother me when they go down...you can find the parts
everywhere. When the solid state rig goes down...lightning or whatever..you just
cant run next door to rat shack or the neighbor ham to grab a part...you get
on the phone and next day air it from the manufacture, which leaves you off the
air for a day at least. Not my idea of a good time you know...lol.
Anyhow..the portable tranny would come in...and keep the station on the air
til parts came in...it'll belong to my company and when all is fix..my tranny
goes back with me to wait for the next call to service where ever it is needed.
Now gotta write-up and get a reception report from Surf City NJ typed up and
ready to send out.........
