A little detective work.

Let people who are involved in broadcasting in your area know you are
interested. I ran into a fellow I hadn't seen in 20 years at a recent
hamfest. We got to talking and somehow the conversation drifted onto the
subject of broadcast transmitters. He said, BTW he knew where there was one
that had been taken out of service. He gave me the phone number and contact
person. The following Monday I called the station, and on Wednesday made my
first trip to inspect it. I took the tubes and heavy transformers home that
day, along with the door and side and back panels. A week later I was able
to come pick up the rest of the transmitter.

You might try calling all the broadcast stations you know of within a
radius of how far you would be willing to travel to pick up a transmitter.
Also, broadcast publications such as RadioWorld have classified ad soctions
that sometimes carry ads for transmitters. You might also try visiting the
website http://amfone.net/phpBB2/index.php. Sometimes they carry
information on available BC xmtrs, or you could sign up and post a "wanted"
ad.

Sometimes information about available transmitters appears on this BB.
