Well, this may not apply in this case, but the rip-off artists on eBay that I have recognized seem to fit into a very distinct pattern. They are selling an expensive product at a price that is almost too good to be true using Buy-it-Now. When you buy, they want paid only one way--a Western Union Money Order. Never, ever agree to this. Walk away. Always insist on using a credit card with buyer protection or PayPal with buyer protection. You could use a personal check but that is risky. A USPO money order is useless as protection--you will never get anything back if it is cashed by a bad guy--and they only go up to $700 anyway.

Other key signs to look for are that you get no valid phone number or address from the seller and when you send them an e-mail, it seems to bounce back to you--but they still reply to it!

All of this was pretty well summarized in Fortune Magazine about 8 months ago. If in doubt, you may want to go back and check that out.
