The 7360 makes a very nice mixer, probably better than any solid state
design. It has some gain, very low noise and spurious responses. One
problem is they have become rare and expensive. An inexpensive alternative
is a 6AR8, listed in the 2002 Antique Electronic Supply catalogue for $5.50.
The only drawback is that one of the grids is internally connected to one
side of the filament, which would have to be grounded. That shouldn't be
too much of a problem if you run DC on the filament, which I would
recommend. I have built mixer circuits with these tubes, and they are very
sensivive to stray magnetic fields, including that of their filament when it
is powered by 6.3 vac.

The 7360 makes a good rx mixer as well as balanced modulator for anyone
interested in homebrew slopbucket. Would be curious what kind of results
anyone has had with the 6AR8.
