Hi Y'all,

Sometimes a 0.7 volt diode will still put too much voltage across a sensitive meter.  If you are dealing with a supply of 2 or 3 hundred volts, you will not miss a few volts so I put enough resistance in series with the meter to make sure the meter will not see more than about 125% of its maximum.  I usually use the lowest voltage zener I can get, probably 5.1 volts.
