The Johnson Desk Kilowatt is fundamentally a good rig, with high grade
components that opreate well within their maximum ratings. Depending on
what you drive it with, the audio can sound excellent. However, I think the
desk arrangement along with the horizontal front panel on the transmitter,
and the funny little rotatable meters was a silly design. I would much
rather have the same circuit and components mounted in a conventional
cabinet with a normal front panel in a vertical plane. Imagine the
fireworks inside a Desk KW when coffee or an 807 gets spilt on top of the
"pedestal".
