I should know better but............in cleaning out the transformer bin in
the shop I found a Thordarson 6699, which looks to be a medium power mod
transformer marked P/B/P on one side and C/500/3500/6250 on the other. Does
anyone have specs on this puppy, or a rule of thumb I could use to figure out
approximate power it can handle?
What I'd like to build up is a simple 2 (final) tube modulator modulating a
simple class C final, with a common power supply voltage and somewhere
between 150 and 300 watts output of fully modulated AM. My neighbors haven't
voted yet. Can anyone recommend a favorite set up that fits these numbers?
I'll admit to being a bit lazy and not having done the math yet, but thought
I'd ask first - it would be too good to be true for a pair of 811's
modulating a 4-125 or an 813 to work, I imagine. Any suggestions greatly
appreciated.
And is there any problem with running a mod transformer at 1/3 or so of its
rated power, other than having to lift it :)?
Also I picked up some other Thordarson chokes and xfrmers only having
Thordarson numbers on them - I naively assumed someone might have a web site
up with that type of info - did I miss it?
Thanks, Scott
