Hi Jay,
Are you specifically asking about just the audio circuits or the whole
thing? I don't know much about the differences in general but there some
circuit differences as well as frequency coverage differences. The CD model
covers a wider range of frequencies. Thats why its one of the transmitters
of choice by pirate radio stations. I've heard there are circuit
differences, partly because the CD models were manufactured for at least 10
years after the Viking II was replaced by the Valiant. Thats about all I
know, not too much, but just enough to know there are differences.
Do you have the CD model? I just bought this one in October. I bought the
Viking II, 122 vfo (with bail), and original manuals for $250. Plus I got
to pick it up and see it before plunking down the money. The unit is in
very good condition and its the first nice VIking II I've seen. The few
I've seen at hamfests are rust buckets or have all sorts of 'new' meters and
switches drilled into them. I've had this one on the bench for a few weeks
while cleaning it up. I just discovered the 'new audio mod' and now I'm
trying to figure out what to do with it.
I haven't heard you on AM yet Jay. Band conditions on 75 are great and 10
meters AM is active.
