...Most of us
run dual shielded cables now, one for audio and another for PTT to combat
this problem. The new cable will find it's way into audiophile shacks
everywhere.

For years I have used what to me is infininely better than a PTT switch on
the microphone. My mic is mounted on a standard microphone boom, just
above eye level, so that I have to tilt my head up slightly while talking.
The PTT switch is on a separate spiral cord, just like the one on a hand
mic, but it's just a switch. I use an old football-shaped bakelite toggle
switch from the junkbox that happens to fit my hand just right. It
toggles, so I don't have to hold it down while talking. That eliminates
accoustical and electrical coupling to the mic that often makes a "click"
over the air. Also, I can walk around the room, tune up the transmitter,
while t he t/r switch is under my control. While operating, I just sit
holding the switch in my lap, or sometimes put it on the desk or even on
the floor.

The only drawback with leaving it on the desk or the floor is sometimes when
I'm ready to stand by, I cannot find the switch!

I find this much more comfortable than the typcial hand mic switch, G-stand,
foot switch or switch on the front panel of the rig.
