I noticed the ad and picked up the telephone, called him, introduced myself
and had a nice converstaion with him about it.  I mentioned that  it is a very
high price to pay for a AM rig. He still was pleased to describe the
transmitter construction down to the final details quiet
proudly.

If ya don't have the time to build or restore one and have the money to buy
one....why not?
