Carl,
Tracing things out can be tough.
You need to find the original base design, almost always
from some handbook or qst.

My design has been changed a lot from what I started with.
Just last night I removed the small dual 140 pf tuning cap
on the RF amp and shoe horned in a dual section 365pf cap.
Its mounted higher to clear the rf tube and an IF can, and I have
some universal type shaft couplings to get it to the knob on
the front panel.

This enabled me to unwind some turns off the input coil and adjust
the output coil (slug tuned) so that 80 and 40 meters are not at
the edge of the tuning cap range, and the peaks of both
coils match up.
Gain is up even more, so now I have to change the S meter
adjustment circuit to lower the gain somewhat....

I am also unhappy with the looks of the front panel.
I used a BIG national slide rule dial/knob thing off
the hamfest VFO, but it looks dorky to me.

I have one other (small) dial I may try on a smaller
(less tall) front panel.
One dial is huge, the other is a little too small......

The thing is really working VERY well, it just needs
to look better on the front panel.

I also need someone with good ears to listen and check
for any distortion.

It sure has been a ton of fun to build, my wife thinks
I am obsessed by it, and I have been, because of the very
good results I got out of it.

I NEVER would have thought it possible to build something
that works so well.
I was expecting something that at best would do ok
under good conditions.
Now I find its BETTER then anything else I own!
