Gary,  I  thinkl  you are  right  about the  swinging choke.  If  can  
access an old  RCA  tube  manual,say  40s vintage,  It describes the  power 
supply  components in  detail.  I  think  the sswinging  choke was
used ona  plate  modulated rigs  power supply.  73s  Russ
