Mike,
Well, you were overloading it!

I finished the rf amp, and also put in an RF gain control
(on the front panel) and an IF gain control (also on front panel).
I got the RF amp input and output tuned circuits to track...
almost, the tuning cap is slightly small to tune both 80 and 40,
but its only off peak about 2 s units, so its good enough.

I had to tailor the AGC values from what the Scott used, as they
used all shielded transformers which cut the signals down
quite a bit.
They shielded everything excessively so the Japanese would
not pick up any radiated signals! (WW2).

I also built an S meter circuit that works well,
its a 6SN7 and uses both triodes.
I don't have an S meter, but used an old Lafayette VU meter.
Anyone have a nice S meter?
One out of a heathkit receiver would work well, one that lights
up would be neat!

The only thing I have left to do is build a BFO if I want one
on the receiver, the buffered IF output, and the muting circuit.
The only thing I use one for is to zero beat signals.

Even without a filter, the receiver seems to work well except
when a much stronger signal is very close to the frequency
I am listening to.

It seems to work very well under 95% of the band conditions,
and I can even copy fairly well on 80 meters at night.

Its VERY sensitive, picking up signals when switched into
the dummy load!

Once again, thanks for the tube!
