Charlie,
I think there is info on a sync detector on the bizlink
web page.
I tried their low distortion detector (IC chip) and could
hear no difference over the diode load output in the r390.

I also had a sony receiver with a sync detector, and it was
more of a pain in the butt than useful...

Hard to build a sync detector circuit with tubes!
