ROCK 2002 at Fall Fest !!!
The legacy of Rolling Rock Radio festivities shall continue Sept. 6th
and 7th
when an Official AM Festival Station fires up in conjunction with the
Foundation for Amateur Radios Fall Fest hamfest in Maryland.
The Fall Fest is descended from the famous Gaithersburg, Md. Hamfest,
which
has relocated in recent years and now is combined with a local clubs
fleamarket sponsored by the Columbia Amateur Radio Association held at
the
Howard County Fairgrounds.
The site is about halfway between Frederick and Baltimore, and offers
grassy,
tree-lined facilities somewhat like the old Gaithersburg site, but on a
more
intimate scale.
In 1994, the Foundation for Amateur Radio (FAR) invited the AM Community
to
establish a special event station using vintage gear. It was a hit and
has
remained a fixture at the FARfest ever since.
This time, Dave, W3NP and Frank, KB3AHE will Master the Aether with an
impressive AM Festival Station seen in the images. Franks rig is the
now-
famous screen modulated 4-1000A, imported from Baltimore, with a large
diaphragm condenser mic and outboard audio EQ and processing.
The receiver is a Hammarlund SP-200 imported from Ft. Ashby, West
Virginia,
whose impressive audio at an earlier FARFest has won wide acclaim.
Camping facilities: Trailers & RVs welcome, as well as your tent, your
sleeping bag. The fairgrounds has restrooms & outside water and power.
Frank
has the handle on hotel accommodations.
Tentative operating plans favor 75 and 40 meters, starting mid-morning
Saturday and continuing through mid-day Sunday. We do not yet have a QSL
manager.
The official Rolling Rock toast will be at the traditional 10P time with
check-
ins on site and on the air to validate your participation. Be there or
be
square.
