Yes Charlie,  there are differences,  but  in  most circuits  the  are  
interchangeable.  6146w  is the ruggedized  military  version of the  6146a. 
  The  6146b  has  higher output.  the differences  are  sometimes
in  the  use of  different  brands.  Its not a good idea to  mix different 
brands  together inthe same rig.  Matched  pairs are available,  but  you 
can  match  them yourself  on a tube tester.
Differences in interelectrode capacitance  will be  seen in different
brands.   Russ
