Whoa, the control behind the key jack is the VOLUME level. The control on
front panel progressively introduces more and more CLIPPING as needed
depending on your instant requirements. Conditions deteriorating? Just
crank up the clipping. Band smoothes out- reduce the clipping to zero.
This is the beauty of the Apache design: as long as you intelligently
pre-set the VOLUME level (with screwdriver) to the correct point, you can
vary CLIPPING without worrying about overmodulation. A unique and uncanny
solution to the requirements of its era- kudos Heath!

Don't let the word 'volume' on the front panel fool you. It really means
'clipping'.
