Don't use an amplified D104 on the Apache. That's like driving a Mack
truck through a corn field. Rewire the mike without the amplifier. Apache
input is looking for high impedance. If you read the set up instructions
and the circuit descriptions in the Apache manual, you can get a good
feel on the audio adjustments and what you should be seeing on the meter
in the "Mod" position. I would also check the AM Window and the AMFONE
web pages for Apache mods that range from simple to bizarre. Also
Electric Radio has had Apache mods written up over the years and also a
very good 3 issue coverage of Mohawk mods that make this matching
receiver perform like you have never heard before. I've had my original
Apache up and running since 1959 and still has the original audio
circuitry running in it. I use either a plain un-amplified D104 or an
Electro-Voice 664.
