Ron,
You have to give us more to go on.

Do you like playing with radios?
Most of the fun (for me) with the old radios is changing/improving
the things.

Some people don't want to learn tube electronics, but just want to
operate a good sounding radio.

Some want to collect vintage gear in stock form,
and don't care what it sounds like, or even think because
it was built the way it was, its the best possible design.

Some guys don't care about collecting, or even vintage gear,
but just want good sound.
In some cases, their rigs look like they dumped out the
parts bin on a desk, and somehow RF comes out.

In my day, I am glad I had the opportunity to play with most
of the vintage stuff without the guilt of changing a collectors
piece....it was all worthless junk....

Today, many people want reversible mods/no holes drilled, etc.

You can go all sorts of routes.
Scrap the entire audio section and build a hi fi modulator
even using other tubes like KT88,s, or you can just
change a few values and bypass the clipper section.

You can leave it stock and hook up an external
audio driver into the mod grids, or into the
driver tube.

All sorts of ways you can go.

Same with the receiver, you can take audio off the detector
to a hi fi amp and big 3 way speaker, or modify the
receiver itself....

For me, the fun was always building/experimenting with the
possibilities of the rig...trying different circuits, tubes, etc.

These days, it might be crazy to do that to collectors
items, so I have gone home brew....
