[Alinco] Tuning Alinco DX-70

UPDATE: I just noticed that the tuning procedure the manual is referring to 
is for use with an AUTOMATIC tuner. Unfortunately, I have a manual tuner 
(Vectronics HFT-1500). Guess I could hook up a straight key but would need 
to get adapter for plug.

I just want to thoroughly check out this rig before I sell it (as favor to a 
friend of a friend).

My IC-706's are so much simpler (and my FT-1000 is effortless).

Hopefully somebody out there is familiar with this rig. According to the
(skimpy) manual, one is supposed tune this rig by first hitting the H/L
switch to enter the low power mode followed by hitting FUNCTION and then
TUNE (same button as H/L). When I do this, there is a noticeable decrease in
receiver noise but the rig does not appear to be transmitting and the
external tuner shows no sign or detecting any kind of RF.

 Is there a procedure for tuning the antenna to this rig that I am missing
or does this rig have a problem ?
