Any idea as to what might be wrong with it?



Try to "blip" the key or mic at a time when the sensitivity drops and see if 
it suddenly comes back.  May be the TR relay failing like it did in one of 
my DX70's.  These relays are readily available from Newark .  Another 
problem I had was with the Pot Board (AF/Sq, RIT/DIF).  There is an 8(??) 
pin push together connector that hooks the pot board to the control board 
using SMT.  I had to re-solder a couple of the "spider legs".  Be sure to 
wear some POWERFUL magnifiers and be prepared to do a lot of cussin' !!
