[Alinco] DR599t help??

Greetings to the reflector:
I found a DR599t radio at the Ten Tec hamfest and brought it home. It lights 
up when turned on but all of the menue items are displayed on top and bottom 
of screen and the digits are all verticle lines. There is no audio nor any 
transmit. None of the buttons work nor does the vfo knob. Is this a normal 
problem?? Anyone have an idea?? I have not opened it up so far. Thought I 
would check here and maybe save me some time and agravation.
