The speed limit in the U.S. is 70 Mph or lower. So why are most automobiles
capable of over 100 Mph?
I modify my radios just because I can.... Also so I could communicate with
my FRS radios if I ever wanted/needed to. (If i were to do this I would
stick to GMRS freqs.) Also I can use my Ham radio when
troubleshooting/testing business band radios.
Please no soap box speeches on the legality of "FCC type acceptance" or the
legality of using ham radios on FRS/GMRS freqs. I understand the gray area
of the law. However, I think it is comparable to driving 85 Mph when the
freeway is clear..... it ain't exactly legal, but: "no harm, no foul" right?

Subject: [Alinco] Modified VHF/UHF rigs
Here is a question I have been discussing with another local ham, and one
that has us puzzled. I would guess that maybe 5% of hams are involved in
MARS or CAP (that is probably a high estimate). So why is it that 80% of
the used VHF/UHF rigs and HTs have been modified for wide band transmit?
Are there really that many freebanders out there?
