All,
I am looking for two or three more volunteer operators to support the City’s April 25th Hurricane drill. At this point I have four volunteers, but could use a few more.
Let me know if you can support by COB Friday latest. I need to be out of town from Monday (April 18th to May 12th. Ian N8IK will be acting EC.
Some Details
Alexandria is conducting a FULL SCALE exercise with a fully activated EOC. We have been invited to support both at the EOC and a at least ONE Field location (Fire Station 203) is designated.
Operation begins at 9AM. Ian will be at the EOC at 9AM , Don will arrive about Noon.
Other volunteers should go to Fire Station 203 as a stagging location at 9AM or so. (NOTE: normally, we would establish a net on our repeater with a back up simplex if we had a real hurricane and we would once activated by the city look for volunteers and make assignments.)
It is assumed that some city communications are going to FAIL and that we will need to provide support to collect damage assessments. I understand that CERT may be providing these assessments.
What – Hurricane hits Alexandria – My SPECULATION – Flooding along the river and hunting creek. Power outages, Communications systems fail.
Where we fit in – Activation of the EOC amateur station – Ian will be EC and Net Control. EVEN IF YOU Have not volunteered, he may go through the phone list and call for volunteers. Sean and Wilson will be assigned to Fire Station 203 2801 Cameron Mills Road Alexandria, Virginia, 22302
There may be two other locations.
WHAT WE DO
Provide supplemental communications for the city EOC. The EOC has 2/70cm FM and D-Star (If you have a D-STAR radio bring it with you. We can expect that the power may go out in Alexandria. This will take our 147.315 and back up 146.655 repeater OFF LINE. IF THIS HAPPENS – We can use the D-Star repeater as it has backup power.
THE DRILL
CERT will be providing damage assessments and this will include pictures. I don’t think we can provide that kind of bandwidth, but we can send voice traffic back to the EOC and ICS-213 messages.
The drill will go from 9AM to 3PM.
COMM PLAN
PRIMARY REPEATER 147.315 PL 107.2 -600KHz offset.
