It is my sad duty to inform you that Gary Sessums, the Northern Virginia Ambassador of Amateur Radio, is now a Silent Key. Gary passed away peacefully this morning, succumbing to the massive stroke that he suffered late in the week of 27 April. The plans for Gary’s services are being put together at this time and I will publish specific details on them when they are confirmed. I anticipate that Gary will be transferred to Forest MS for services and final internment.
Gary touched a lot of lives as he went through his life's journey and his various activities here in the Northern Virginia area and this sudden departure has created a significant void filled with great sadness and emptiness. As Gary was a very upbeat and social guy, he would not want us to be sad or grieve. Instead, Gary would want us to remember the good times and all the fun we had. What better way to do that than with a social event in his honor!
Once Gary completes his journey to his final resting spot, we, the Amateur Radio Clubs of Northern Virginia, the Fairlington Social Club group, the Shirlington Runners Club among others will organize a Celebration of Life at a local (TBD) Northern Virginia venue to honor Gary, his life and his accomplishments. We will send out further details on this Celebration as we get a little more organized and as the plan forms up.
God Speed Gary, you fought a good fight!
Sincerely,
Sean Gallagher
