*May 3 through May 9, 2026, is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. *
With our area's susceptibility to tropical systems, *preparation EACH and
EVERY year is crucial*. It only takes ONE storm to make an impact on our
lives. Hurricane Preparedness Week is a way to reinforce what one should
do to prepare for each hurricane season. *While many of us have experience
with hurricanes, we must remember people continue to relocate to our area
each year and they may not have ANY experience with hurricanes! * We
continue to stress that every tropical system is dangerous and that impacts
occur well away from the coast and well away from the center of the storm
and outside of "the cone!"
Each day has a theme to help everyone prepare and stay safe during
hurricane season:
- Please use the following web sites during next week's Hurricane
Preparedness Week and throughout hurricane season:
- https://www.weather.gov/akq/NCHurricanePreparednessWeek NWS
Wakefield's one-stop shop for Hurricane Preparedness info and material,
including graphics in Spanish and for the deaf and hard of hearing
community.
- https://www.noaa.gov/hurricane-prep NWS' mobile-friendly National
Hurricane Preparedness web page. Please view the social media
plan to find
content corresponding to each day's theme.
- Please use any of the information or graphics on the above website on
your social media channels throughout the entire season. We have
everything from evacuation routes to storm surge to how to prepare a
hurricane kit on this website!
- *For our media partners*, please feel free to reach out if you'd like
to schedule any Hurricane Preparedness media interviews with NWS Wakefield
meteorologists for next week.
Thank you for helping to spread the word about weather safety and please
let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
