Greetings Fellow Members,

For those of you who are city residents or who work in the City of Alexandria, here is an opportunity to get all your questions answered, meet the men and women of APD and learn how the Alexandria Police Dept functions. One evening during the training you will visit the Dept of Emergency Communications and see how the 911 call center works and this is all done live, no canned demos. I have taken this offering and I can recommend it highly. Applications are open until tomorrow so if you have an interest, fill out the application and submit by the deadline. If you have questions, let me know. FYI, there are multiple academies are offered in the city to include one for the fire department, sherrif's department, city hall, commonwealth attorneys office and one dealing with the senior service program. I have taken them all and they are worth the investment of your time to attend.
Best Regards,
Sean

There’s still time to apply.

The Alexandria Police Department has extended the application deadline for the Spring 2026 Community Police Academy through Friday, February 20.

This free, nine-week program offers those who live and/or work in Alexandria a behind-the-scenes look at how public safety services are delivered in our city. Participants engage directly with APD leadership, officers, and professional staff through classroom instruction, discussion, and interactive learning. Sessions explore patrol operations, investigations, behavioral health response, specialized units, training, accountability, and more.

Designed to increase transparency, deepen understanding, and strengthen community relationships, the Academy provides a unique opportunity to learn how modern policing works in Alexandria.

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and begin March 11 at the APD Headquarters, 3600 Wheeler Ave., Alexandria, VA 22304.

The Community Police Academy is proudly sponsored by the Alexandria Police Foundation.
