[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] Alexandria ARES Support for 250th Army Parade

Wanted throw out a quick email to thank Stex, Gary, and Skip for supporting DC ARES request for the 250th Army Birthday Parade, I appreciate you guys stepping up for the last minute request. I understand there wasn't a lot going on but any time we can get folks to interact with our neighbors and exercise some skills it's a huge benefit to ARES and the club.

One big thing that this emphasizes is the importance of having your radios accessible with some FEAs (field expedient antennas) or field deployable antennas ready to go. Ed Fong will likely be ceasing production soon so you should all keep the attached instruction handy if you don't already have dual band jpole instructions. Remember, elevation will likely result in better repeater access than additional power in most settings, especially when you are operating in an urban environment.

Here is an example of the mast I use for VHF/UHF jpoles.
