ARC,
Your 2026 Winter Field Day group had a great initial planning session last night. The even bigger news, and an early Christmas present, is that this morning we received confirmation on Alexandria Fire Station 210 as our approved site! That includes the Community Room for an Exam session, so we might add some more to our ranks that weekend.
I have not received any direct requests for any particular activity so for now we expect to have two HF stations, a combined satellite/VHF/UHF station, an ARES/EMCOM demo or build (TBD), a VARA-FM station/demo, and possibly one more station with a vertical antenna. I also just received word that some Clear Node fans will demo that technology. Things are shaping up nicely folks.
Logistically, there will be some official city training occurring that weekend, so the back parking lot may be limited. Fortunately, the Van Dorn Metro parking lot is two buildings to the west of the fire station (6-minute walk) and is free on the weekends. Those with mobility issues will have the priority for parking at Fire Station 210. Otherwise, attendees should plan to park offsite (Van Dorn) Saturday and Sunday. Temporary parking for drops of gear and passengers will certainly be an option. On-demand shuttles from your intrepid WFD planning team may be an option as well; stay tuned.
There are some details to work out, but I think we are ahead of schedule at this point. I'll plan to send another club e-mail update after the new year. Specific thanks to the club members that have stepped up to help with planning and supporting. I know there will be more, so thank you all in advance.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays!
73,
