I would suggest that the dues are the majority of our income in the last two years, but the vast majority of the money in our account is from Silent Key equipment auctions.   This is donations from the families,  If we go 501(c,)3 the family gets the market value of the equipment they donate.  They get to write of that amount on their taxes.

Income sources are a big factor. For a C3, they rely mainly on public grants. For a C7, they mainly rely on dues.
