[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] ARES Digital HF Net.

Hey Everyone,

Hope everyone had a good meeting night last night and has something fun planned for Columbus Day weekend. After looking at some of the events that occurred in North Carolina, I'm making some changes to the ARES net that takes place on Saturdays from 1900 Local to Sunday at 1900 Local. This weekends net will utilize JS8Call on 40m (07.078mhz USB). Below are some of the changes I'd like to incorporate. If you plan on participating, please email me back so I know.

I will be incorporating the 2m ARC repeater into this net as much as possible. While I don't have access to it from my QTH, I will be driving into Alex a few times a day to make radio checks and see if anyone has any traffic to pass. I will take any messages to pass and attempt to forward them to the recipient on HF, and relay the reply over our repeater. Likewise, if you know anyone who sends me any messages destined for any club member, I will attempt to relay over our 2m repeater. I will function as net control, however I should not be viewed as the exclusive net control! I plan to call the repeater at 2100 this evening, 0900 tomorrow morning, 1200 tomorrow afternoon, and 1700 tomorrow night. (I am open to utilizing a DMR private call to facilitate this as well).

What does this mean for you. If you are a technician or don't have a robust HF setup at your QTH yet, this means you will now be able help us expand the net! If you do have an HF setup, and particularly if you have an HF setup AND have good coverage of the the ARC repeater, you can operate as a relay station! If you do relay any messages, please keep a log of Sender, Recipient, Confirmation and Date of confirmation and any response the recipient may have.

Generally I would ask that we limit the relay logs to a single "2 message transaction". Multiple people can relay as many messages as they want, but each exchange should be logged as if it was a unique message.
