Don,
First, my issue and the reason I ran was the draft charter, which had two 'boiler plate" clauses that removed the general membership from voting for officers and board members and the clause allowing compensation for board members.
Second, For more the the 20 years as EC, ARES has been the lead on public service support. In those 20 years ARES public supported the club as the source of operators one equipment.
I got a call from Sue Johnson asking for support, and I informed our club president. I assumed that the club would want to handle the parade support. On last Wednesday Due called me again as she had not heard from the club. I brought the up on the DStar net and Sean said the club might have to pass on this event.
I did not participate last year and was happy to stay out of it again. But, the club needs to support this event if it wants to keep support from the city.
Don, you are correct in that the club voted, and I have had other activities that are more worthy of my time. But, the idea that the club would not support the most important event in the city was why I jumped in.
By the way, you email included in the one I'm responding to never got to me

Sooooo, I don’t know what is going on here. I saw a thread that I wasn’t part of, say that ARES was being asked to support the parade, and that folks were having a hard time reaching me for some reason. In my opinion, and I’m pretty both the ARRLs and ARCs bylaws support this, ARES is independent of the club, but ARES exists solely to support the clubs and local hams in EmComm related efforts.

Don, Rick, who is the deputy EC, reached out to me based on a conversation that occurred on the DSTAR net relating to the lack of planning behind the GW Parade, he said that historically ARES runs this event, now I know the club also has a vested interest in supporting these events to keep positive visibility with the city, however I think if the ARES name is going to be used the ARES team should be involved in planning. With that said, I don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other about using the ARES name in this event.

I am more than happy to help coordinate and facilitate this event to ensure it's success, but I don't want to step out of my lane. I don't think ARES should "own" any particular event, since we are not really an official local org, but a subset of ARRL. I don't believe there should be any restrictions in an ARES EC or Deputy EC stepping up and asking for members to coordinate, as again, it's separate org and effort sharing a group of members. In this case, Rick had heard that the club was unsure of the efforts to support the GW parade, brought it to my attention, along with some failures on my part, and stepped up to communicate the need, I think this is well with in the rights of ARES. That being said, until I am told otherwise by club leadership, ARES will cease coordinating all efforts for event staffing.

I'm really not sure why this all hands reply was needed, it seems fairly unprofessional, especially considering there were outside personnel on this chain. Lets keep our club drama contained internally please, and ideally keep these disputes restricted to elected leadership channels and those involved.

Rick - you need to back off. Ask any principal in the City of Alexandria and they will let you know that the Alexandria Radio Club has provided their parade radio club support in the past, and is expected to in the future. You know that Club President Sean and Vice President Bob have notified the club leadership group that they are organizing club support for the 2024 parade. Your email without coordination with them is both disruptive and confusing to club members.

In a vote by club members, you lost an election in a bid for president of the club, and you are not a club officer. Voted the honor of Lifetime membership by club members, you should be trying to set a good example of cooperation as a club member. The club expects that of Lifetime members. On the other hand, If your disruptive behavior continues, the club has the option of voting to revoke your Lifetime membership.

George Washington Birthday Celebration<https://washingtonbirthday.com/>
The City of Alexandria’s annual celebration of George Washington’s birthday will return in 2025, culminating with the George Washington Birthday Parade on Saturday, February 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Old Town Alexandria.

All,
This is to ASK all ARES and Alexandria Radio Club members to consider providing communications support the the Annual George Washington's Birthday Parade on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 15, 2025.
Our normal GW operation is to provide a radio net to include shadows for assembly area parade captains (those who organize the parade, the parade leadership, the reviewing stand, parade start.
The operation has amateurs collect changes from the assembly captains (i.e Who is in / out and moved position) These changes get handed off either by coming by the trailer or radio to the trailer between 20 to 10 minutes prior to parade start. We also provide eyes on the parade route for the city.
It normally starts with our assembling at the Nanny J. Lee center to hook up the trailer and carpool to the parade start area. If the trailer is not available, we set up a table at parade start. At start we collect all of the changes and send them digitally to the reviewing stand so the announcer can keep track.
WE NEED at LEAST 15 or more amateur radio volunteers. In the past, after the parade, we hold a hot wash, and the club has covered the cost. This is still TBD.
This is THE BIGGEST event in Alexandria.
On behalf of our EC Joe, please let me know if you can volunteer.
