[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] October Club Meeting Highlights and Notification of Annual Elections

This note provides highlights of the October club meeting and is
notification that elections of 2024 officers will take place at the next
club meeting on November 10th.

The October meeting featured a talk by Mike Aimone (WA8AHZ) on "The State of
our Hobby."  Mike is the ARRL VA Section Affiliated Club Coordinator, and is
a member of the Vienna Wireless Association (VWS). He made the case for
clubs to engage with hams who are licensed, but are not active; and for
clubs to work together on efforts to connect with those hams to bring them
back into hobby.

The appointment of Joe Porcelli (KT3I) as Committee Chair of the Tax-exempt
Study Committee to further investigate tax-exempt status for the club was
discussed.  No further action will be taken on the tax-exempt matter until
the committee's work is finished.  During discussions about a tax-exempt
status, Mike Aimone provided some insights into how well VWS operates as a
tax-exempt club that were positive in nature, and helpful.

Alexandria Radio Club's participation in the 60th Anniversary Celebration of
the Vienna Wireless Society will take place on October 21st.  Sixty years
ago, 20 members of the Alexandria Radio Club founded VWS because of distant
travel required from rural Vienna for meetings and events held in
Alexandria.  The celebration will feature Jim Wilson (K4BAV), the son of
Lynn Wilson (K4DHB), as a guest speaker.  Lynn Wilson helped to organize
VWS.  Both Jim and Lynn are Life Members of Alexandria Radio Club.

Election of the 2024 President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary of
the club will take place at the November 10th meeting.  Directors will not
be up for election this year.  Nominations for 2024 officers should be
submitted to both of the Nominating Committee Co-chairs, Sandy Kenyon
KQ4DNE) and Gary Sessums (KC5QCN).  See election procedures in the
attachment for details. 

It is important to note that voting in this election requires in-person
attendance at the meeting.
