I approached the possibility of ham about three years ago because Ria N2RJ
(whom I knew from a Facebook group) seemed to be having fun in the hobby. I
was always interested in the possibility of EComms but I found that many
“preppers” were afraid of getting licensed. I concluded one cannot learn
the radio art without practice. I enjoyed the tests including seeing the
questions on the Amateur Extra which I badly bombed, but what remains to be
learned though practice and eventual study sounds like fun. I can identify
with those youth in the article. I have no idea if I have what it takes but
when I see youth taking tests, I am encouraged. I have to cleanup and
setup a table for radios and electronics. Eventually I’ll join some nets
and begin learning.
