Annually, the Alexandria-Caen Sister City Committee of Alexandria holds a commemoration of D-Day, see the attached flyer for 2023. The committee recently reached out via Jan, KB2LRX, to Alexandria Radio Club for participation in the 2023 commemoration and inquired about us having a vintage WWII radio. Therefore, Jan and I are looking for club members who may have vintage WWI radios and would be willing to participate in the commemoration. If you have a vintage WWII radio and are willing to participate in the commemoration, please let us know by sending an email to Jan and me.
The city of Caen, in western Normandy, was the center of some of the heaviest fighting after the Allies landed on the nearby beaches that marked the beginning of the end of World War II, 79 years ago. Today, Alexandria and Caen nurture a bond of shared cultural engagement through activities including annual student exchanges, Intern Exchanges, Annual D-day commemorative events, a lecture series; and sending Alexandria delegations to Caen & hosting Caen delegations in Alexandria.
This year is the City of Alexandria's 13th Annual Commemoration Ceremony. Along with special guests, it will include WWII Reenactors and historic displays, 1940s Jazz Band and Swing Dancing, U.S. Army Fife and Drum Corps, community organizations, and children's activities.
Although we need more vintage WWII radios, just to make sure that Alexandria Radio Club is well represented, Jan and I joined forces to obtain a vintage WWII radio for the event. We will have a BC-645 on display for the event, see attachment.
We hope to see club members stop by to see the Alexandria Radio Club display. We are also hoping that our display will generate more interest in the club.
