Good morning, all – hope to see you at Field Day 2023 this coming weekend.  Please see details in attachments for Field Day location, hours of operations and food service.  We are hoping that weather will cooperate with our planned operations, otherwise we will adapt as the weather situation dictates.  The Club Field Day 2023 photo will be taken on site at 12:45 p.m.  Councilman McPike, Fire Chief Corey Smedley, and Kevin Coleman of the City of Alexandria are scheduled to attend the event. 

 

As former FEMA Administrator, and member of the Alexandria Radio Club, Craig Fugate stated: “When Everything Else Fails.’ Amateur Radio oftentimes is our last line of defense.”  During our event this weekend, we will again demonstrate to the public that we can conduct communications without the “grid.” Worth noting is that in late May, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) announced “We recently signed a new MOA with the American Radio Relay League -- establishing our partnership with licensed, voluntary amateur radio operators to support response (and) recovery efforts.”

 

This year, the Governor of Virginia has issued a Certificate of Recognition that recognizes June 24-25, 2023, as AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR RECOGNITION DAYS in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and has called the observance to the attention of all citizens, see attached.
