This looks like a fix, but the procedure seems likely to change as it’s been changed before and is not intuitive. It does NOT require the $9.99/mo subscription.

There are Discord groups for many topics, but this lets you have a different nickname for each…

1. Go to the group, click the Settings gear icon next to your name at the bottom
2. Select Settings, then Server
3. The name you set here will only be used for group you’re currently viewing
4. The custom name will only appear when you post to that group
5. It does change all your previous posts retroactively
