FYI, for the last couple weeks, I’ve been running an alternate NCS for Winlink Wednesdays. (See https://winlinkwednesday.net/)
During the evening sessions, I’m running on 20 meters using the VARA HF modem in peer-to-peer (P2P) mode on 14.087 (dial) MHz. I’ve been starting my station by mid-afternoon and running through the end of the evening session (9:30 PM EST) so that people have a chance to connect during daylight and dark hours.
THIS week, I’ll also be running a 2 meter P2P station. I’ll be running VARA FM P2P from pretty early in the morning (around 7 AM) until I QSY over to 20 meters for the evening session. I’ll be on 145.085 MHz.
In both cases, my station ID is K0RVW. It is running on an Icom IC-7100 with an Arrow ground plane antenna at about 25 feet above the ground behind my house. I’m able to easily reach an RMS gateway 20 miles away, so I’m hoping my RF footprint will be adequate for people in ARC to reach me clearly.
For the 2 meter portion, those with Technician licenses can participate, of course. And you don’t NEED to pay for a VARA license if you’re content running at the lower speeds.
I hope this will give more people an opportunity to give it a try and participate in Winlink Wednesdays.
If it succeeds and we get a few participants, I’ll be happy to run this on a weekly basis. All here are invited.
Cheers,
Ken van Wyk, K0RvW
