We are desperately trying to get more HAMS to help with the George
Washington Day Parade this year. This year, the parade has more than
doubled in size in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the laying of the
Masonic Temple Memorial's cornerstone. The parade has expanded from the
usual 10 marching divisions to at least 21 marching divisions, and units are
still reporting in from across the country. More parade information is
available at http://washingtonbirthday.com/.
For this annual event, Alexandria Radio Club normally provides about 10 HAMS
to help keep track of the marching units. This year we need at least double
that number of HAMS, or 20 HAMS.
There will be quite a turn-out for the parade this year with a very exciting
and celebratory air. Weather for the parade is forecasted to be good.
There will be cloudiness, but only a small chance of precipitation. Highs
will be in the low 60s and lows in the low 50s on parade day.
If you have a handheld VHF/UHF HAM transceiver and are willing to support
the parade this year, please contact N4ASX (n4asx at cox.net
<mailto:n4asx at cox.net> ) and KI4D (ki4d at arrl.net <mailto:ki4d at arrl.net> )
as soon as possible letting us know the type and model of radio you will
bring. You will immediately be provided with information about the assembly
point, radio equipment preparations, and parade support radio operations.
We have a limited number of club-owned HAM radios that can be used and
returned at the parade, if you do not own a VHF/UHF handheld unit.
Thanks for your cooperation with this.
Don Lewis, KI4D
