All-
With tonight's Severe Thunderstorm Warning that has been issued by the
National Weather Service, I had a discussion with our Club President, KI4D,
on what our protocols are for postponement or cancellation of a net in the
event of incoming severe weather.
Right now, the club does not have protocols for how severe weather will
affect the operation of a terrestrial VHF/UHF net, especially with the
Summer and thunderstorm season on the horizon. I know many of us have
outdoor antennas that you would normally disconnect or take down in the
event of a thunderstorm or incoming lightning strikes.
So I think this is a topic of discussion at a future club meeting on what
our protocols should be. I am from the school of "safety first," and even
though we love our 2m excitement on Thursday nights, keeping you and your
property safe from lightning strikes should be the priority.
I'll take a look at what the weather is looking like 30 minutes prior to
net kickoff time (I am the NCS for tonight's net). If there is lightning
in my area, I'm taking down my antennas and cancelling the net.
Thanks for your understanding!
