"Does the club need a leadership group" is the question I am posing. The
club has abandoned leadership group business meeting/discussions during the
past year. Consequently, the club has elected board members, officers, and
advisors that have not been engaged or consulted (with few exceptions) for
their input or opinions on ongoing club business prior to general membership
meeting discussions or membership emails. Hybrid board/general membership
meetings, by nature, provide no leadership results because there no
leadership consensus to be presented. That is, club members are never given
results of any leadership group decisions because are none. General
membership meeting business mainly feature status reports and other limited
housekeeping matters. Overall, club business decision-making, though quite
limited, is decided by less than three or four individuals in the club, and
this is what is provided to membership; despite what is intended in the club
Bylaws.
My point is that either the Bylaws need to be revised to reflect how the
club is currently operated; or, the club should operate in accordance with
the existing Bylaws.
Operating by the Bylaws would have a forum to allow members in leadership
group discussions to express their views about ongoing matters, about how
and what activities the club should be pursuing short term and long term,
and a host of other topics that would benefit the club. I believe we should
be operating by what is intended in the Bylaws, as is widely described in
literature on Corporation Bylaws and Boards.
