1. SITREPs

Alexandria CERT and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) request CERT volunteers to provide a Situation Report, or SitRep, about local flooding conditions in Alexandria.

Report only for your home or work location in the City of Alexandria. You should not leave your home or work to investigate conditions: Safety is the first priority. Note: Call 911 or 703‑746‑4444 to report emergency or non-emergency situations. If conditions are unsafe, take protective action.

Please report at least once, if you can, during the operational period. Report only as needed, when conditions change significantly; in other words, we don’t need hourly reports. Note: The operational period may be canceled, shortened, or extended depending on conditions. Watch for subsequent emails about changes in reporting requirements. The reporting form will accept responses only during the operational period. If you have problems with the SitRep form, please send me an email at axcert at earthlink.net <mailto:axcert at earthlink.net> .

The SitRep operational period for reporting BEGINS at:

           Monday, May 16, 1:00 pm (1300)

The SitRep operational period for reporting ENDS at:

           Monday, May 16, 8:00 pm (2000)

The link to the form is https://forms.gle/nEyN8fjQ82cZXbbn9

NOTES: The reporting form requests your phone number and email address, in case follow-up is needed. Only OEM and I see your personal information, to protect your privacy.

In addition to the street and zip code information, input the latitude and longitude. This information will create an interactive map for OEM that can be displayed in the Emergency Operations Center. The SitRep form has instructions for finding the latitude and longitude. Longitude for Alexandria is a negative number. EXAMPLE: Latitude 38.799383 Longitude -77.058926

1.	TAKE CARE OF FIRE HYDRANTS AND STORM DRAINS

Clear debris from around fire hydrants near your home. (Do you know where they are?) When a fire hydrant is blocked by debris, the fire department has to clear it out before hooking up the hose. The delay could cost lives and property. Storm drains blocked by debris can cause home flooding, infrastructure damage, and dangerous driving conditions on refreezing. Blocked storm drains are also a danger to lives and property.

Do not overextend yourself physically in clearing debris. Don't become a casualty, please. Also, be sure to dress properly for conditions.

Use Next Door, civic associations, and any other means you may have to remind people of how important this is, and to encourage others to help protect people and property.

Thanks, and Stay Safe!
