We had a good time in the park today with solar/battery discussions, although the pavilion was under total renovation.  Attached are a few photos.  All of those  who came were able to see something they had never seen before.  I, personally, learned a lot.  Ed did a short video explaining his solar/battery setup which I will send to those who are interested.

The Battery/solar setups Tech Talk is a “GO”  tomorrow on Sunday, July 10; it will be held at Jefferson Manor Park, 9:00-1130 a.m.   We have not rented the pavilion shelter, but we will be using it unless another group has rented it.  In such a case we would have to move to another area.  However, from experience this would be quite unlikely on a Sunday morning.  Ed Ferguson will lead the effort showing his setup for solar panels and Lithium batteries that has been demonstrated in the field.  See Ed's YouTube videos below.  Ed will answer questions related to how much panel capacity is needed and how much battery is needed for intended operations.  I will exhibit portable 100/200 watt solar panels and Lithium battery setups that I have for full-power (100 watt) stations for an extended period.  The shortest route to the pavilion is from Dewey Dr.

Hello everyone,

I was talking with Don, KI4D, about battery/solar setups and thought that it might be fun to set up a gear "show and tell" at one of the local parks to go over what we've done for our setups and give others a chance to see some new ideas. 

I was able to run my station from home for Field Day while I looked after my wife, as she was recovering from surgery the day before, for about 5 hours.  During that time I operated 50W CW and a laptop off my portable 60Ah battery pack and managed 110 contacts.  This setup is a "version 2" of my original 40Ah setup I covered in two videos:

The new version uses two 30Ah Bioenno BLF-1230A batteries, in active/standby mode.  I have a parts list at:
