[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] Hello, getting back into the hobby after some years of inactivity

Hello everyone,

 

I just bought a Baofeng UV-S9X3 5 Watt Tri-Band Radio from Amazon for around
$33.  Since I am blind, I was quite surprised to learn that it has voice
output and I didn't expect it to be this accessible.

 

I also purchased new gear for HF, a Kenwood TS-590SG a Kenwood T-MF71A.
These are older models but they are very accessible.

 

Anyway, I haven't touched a keyer paddle or a MIC for a lot of years but I
have extra time available and would like to get to know you all again.

 

I don't expect to be able to operate a lot of HF from my townhouse, but
hopefully I can get back into some low powered CW.

 

I read on the website that the club is running classes for licensing.  I
personally want the Extra which I should have done this ages ago as it will
require a lot of studying on my part, so I'll likely attend the Zoom
sessions to get my basic knowledge up to speed.

 

If there will ever be classes for higher licensing, I sure would like to be
notified.

 

It's great to reconnect again.  If there's any room for help with ARES and
related, please let me know.
