hamlife.jp issued a retraction article. https://www.hamlife.jp/2022/02/01/icom-ic7100series-saikai/
Icom changed their mind after learning outcries from domestic and international users and because of prospect of being able to fulfill their parts from other sources. (rough translation)
So I don't think the original article was completely false.
